Two paintings in the style of Monet. I'm pleased with the haystack but the snowscene didn't really work.

I'mjust the opposite. It's the snow-scene I like best. But, I'm afraid, I see nothing much of YOU in either. I know they are practices in technique, and must look at them in that light. I can only hope they are valuable to you in what they are. Keep going though as I find your journey fascinating and exciting.

You're quite right, dad, they are just exercises. I am learning a great deal from doing them and having fun to boot. You can expect to see some of these techniques turning up in more original paintings later

I think the snow scene works as a painting in it's own right. Having looked at the book you're working from, you can change slightly the cropped view you're working on, if you think it makes a better composition. Could you write a little about what effects you were trying to create, and how, in these exercises please. I'm vey interested to learn how these artists were approaching these works, and tell me what you've learnt, too.
